A Staff Farewell

Jill Gonzalez receives Storybook Hero Award from Emily Ball Cicchini (Executive Director), Drew Scherz (Board President), at Austin Taco Project, Austin Hilton, Aug 29 2018

Today is a bittersweet day at BookSpring as we say goodbye to one of our long-time staff members, Jill Gonzalez. Jill is embarking on a new journey as Executive Director of Women’s Storybook Project. We are so happy for her and are proud to see her continue her passionate work in the early literacy field.

Jill has been an integral part of the BookSpring story for many years. She began volunteering with Reading is Fundamental (RIF) before we became BookSpring. She served on the board at RIF and then took on the role of RIF Project Manager in July 2010. Since then, Jill has worn many hats at BookSpring! Her roles have varied from Director of Programs to interim Executive Director and most recently, Associate Director.

Her knowledge and skills in the literacy nonprofit field have greatly prepared her for this new leadership role. From her days teaching reading skills to children as a Master Reading Teacher, to reading aloud at early childhood centers throughout Central Texas, all that have met Jill know her excitement for children’s books and reading with children.

She has worked diligently to build relationships with teachers, librarians, center managers, clinic directors and site coordinators to make sure their needs were met and their students were delighted with their books. She is compassionate advocate for early literacy and her passion lights up a room!

Jill, we will miss you!
