Booktoberfest Champions Event celebrated families, individuals, or organizations that have supported BookSpring with either a cumulative annual gift of over $1,000 or have given $5,000 over a lifetime. These dedicated individuals have made early childhood literacy a priority, and for that, we like to take time twice a year to thank them for their enormous support.
First, live event since emergence of COVID
We have tightened up safety precautions in all of our efforts. We moved a lot of our annual fundraising events to the virtual world, but just this past month, on Friday, October 15th we had our first ever in-person event since the start of the pandemic.
Hosted at Live Oak Brewing Company, Booktoberfest was an outdoor event with food, brew, pets dressed in festive costumes, yard games, and an online auction. There was a great turnout of people who came and participated in the event and who participated online.
Recap of the fall festivities
We enjoyed complimentary brews provided by Live Oak Brewing and a variety of yummy treats from Hey Cupcake and Chick-fil-A. While many of the kids tossed bags for cornhole and tried to keep the jumbo Jenga game from toppling over, many of us thrived in face-to-face conversations with people we hadn’t seen in person since the pandemic.
Many of us were finally able to put faces to the names and some of us were able to catch up with people we hadn’t seen in person for a while.
Between the conversation chatter and the online auction, many people enjoyed taking a beat to pet many of the furry friends who joined us at the event. We had a dinosaur, Sherlock Holmes, and Georgie from IT all join us in the pet costume contest, but in the end, the clear winner was Sherlock Holmes!
Live auction
Although there was quite a bit going on, not many of us strayed far from the auction table! With 25 prizes in the competition, the last 15 minutes were where many of us got out-bid! So many people went home with great prizes that day. We had sports tickets, overflowing gift baskets, and gift certificates all go to deserving winners!
A big thank you to all who participated in our Booktoberfest event in person and online.
We were able to have a nice evening in honor of our champions to thank them for all the support they have provided to BookSpring. All the proceeds from Booktoberfest will go towards buying books and supporting our reading programs so BookSpring can continue to make building up literacy in Central Texas a priority.
