Books Beginning at Birth: A New Partnership for Birth to Age 4

Early childhood programs have long-lasting impacts on children, families, and broader communities. The Texas Association for the Education of Young Children (TXAEYC) and BookSpring launched the Books Beginning at Birth program to ensure more families are empowered and motivated to read together.

Texas families with children from birth through age four will have free access to print and digital books and other literacy resources to promote reading at home. The website (https://b3tx.org/) is filled with free tips, videos, and other resources to help families begin reading with their babies and toddlers.

Language develops in a baby’s brain as soon as they are born. According to a 2019 study, “Parents who read one picture book with their children every day provide their children with exposure to an estimated 78,000 words each year.”

Studies show that reading together is vital in fostering healthy brain development in children. Families are encouraged to apply to get books delivered at home.

Community groups, pre-k programs, childcare centers, or health clinics are invited to partner with us to help families develop strong reading habits.

Books Beginning at Birth provides resources to families living in low socioeconomic areas to enhance literacy skills and socio-emotional engagement in young children. BookSpring and TXAEYC hope to bridge the word gap and contribute to literacy equity across Texas.
