What is your job at BookSpring?Sarah Hill holding a book at BookSpring

I’m the Accounting Manager, so I handle the financial books and assist with fundraising and donor relations and data.

What do you like about your job at BookSpring?

When I first applied at BookSpring, I was fresh out of college and trying to figure out where I fit in the world. I was drawn to BookSpring’s mission and heart. I started out as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Finance and Operations. In that position, I was able to explore many different work niches, the main one being finance. With BookSpring’s support, I’ve been able to expand my accounting knowledge and skills, and during that time, I have come to find where I fit. Now I’m able to do what I enjoy. Aside from making sure our financial and donor databases are clean and complete, I’ve recently begun to interact more with our donors and contacts and have been able to have more meaningful conversations about what we do and the impact we make.

What do you see BookSpring doing in the future?

With the recent move into our new building and the launch of our “Books Beginning at Birth” program with our partner, the Texas Association for the Education of Young Children, we’ve expanded to servicing all of Texas! I see us settling into our new, physical space on a local scale as well as learning how to settle into our new space in the literacy world on a state-wide scale.

What would you like to tell the BookSpring audience?

I am so thankful for the opportunities BookSpring has afforded me, and I’m also incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported us over the years – whether through book drives, volunteering, donations, or even just talking about us and staying informed about what’s going on in the early childhood literacy world. We can’t do what we do without people’s support, and I can’t express how much we (BookSpring) and the kids we serve appreciate that support. I am happy in knowing that I’m spending my time working for something good – something that helps our community and something that is near to my heart. Books were such an essential part of my childhood. They’re like little doors into different worlds and times. I’m grateful that I can be a part of an organization that is helping open those doors for children in our community and state for whom they’ve always been locked.
