Avani brings commitment to education, service, and community engagement, with a professional background in public health and prior education in English literature. She has implemented health promotion and chronic disease prevention initiatives for Texas DSHS focused on improving healthcare access in underserved communities and led teams conducting health outcomes research. Avani also served in nonprofit roles with Partnerships for Children and Eanes for Equity. She holds board president and trustee positions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, advancing cultural arts and diversity programming. Passionate about reading, writing and lifelong learning, she is dedicated to expanding opportunities for children and families through literacy education. Born in India and raised in north Texas, Avani has lived in Austin with her family since 2010. Her favorite children’s book is Can I Play Too? by Mo Willems.
