Serving 167 Counties with an emphasis on Central Texas and Rural and Underserved Areas

BookSpring’s service area is designed to maximize impact by focusing resources where they can make the greatest difference while building a statewide network of literacy support. Today and going forward, BookSpring serves children and families across 167 Texas counties through a tiered approach based on both geographic reach and community need.

• Counties in Blue – Central Texas Priority
  These counties are located within BookSpring’s Central Texas direct-service region but are not designated as rural and underserved. These communities benefit from the same direct-service infrastructure, allowing BookSpring to provide books, literacy resources, family engagement programs, and strong partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, libraries, and community organizations. Together, the seven Central Texas counties are home to an estimated 6,922 children under age five living in poverty, underscoring the importance of sustained local investment.
• Counties in Green – Special Priority: Rural, Underserved, and Central Texas
  These counties represent BookSpring’s double impact service area. These counties are both rural and underserved and located within BookSpring’s Central Texas direct-service region. Because they combine high need with proximity to BookSpring’s headquarters and distribution network, they receive the organization’s most comprehensive continuum of services, including book distributions, Family Reading Network support, healthcare and school partnerships, community events, volunteer engagement, and ongoing family literacy programming.
• Counties in Yellow– Statewide Rural and Underserved Priority
  These counties are located outside Central Texas but have been identified as rural and underserved. These communities are a key part of BookSpring’s statewide mission. Through regional partnerships, digital literacy resources, the Family Reading Network, and targeted book access initiatives, BookSpring helps expand opportunities for children and families who may otherwise have limited access to books and literacy support.

Families across Texas can join the Family Reading Network for free digital books, reading tips, and family-friendly literacy activities. Print-book opportunities are available in select Central Texas service areas as funding allows.

Schools, clinics, early childhood programs, libraries, and community organizations in the designated service area can apply to partner with BookSpring for print book distributions, family engagement resources, and literacy programming. Priority is given to communities with high numbers of children experiencing economic hardship and limited access to books.
