I grew up in Austin, have a Masters in Social Work and a Doctorate in Psychology. I was in private practice for over thirty years in College Station and during that time I taught Adjunct at Texas A&M, volunteered with the Battered Women’s Shelter and Planned Parenthood, and was a counselor at a Half Price Books! My hobbies are books: reading, collecting, traveling around the country to bookstores, anything books. I moved back to Austin half-time in retirement to be near my grandchildren and half-time to the Big Bend area to be near endless beauty. After working in Presidio on food issues, access to clothing, GED, etc, programs, I realized a free book program would be a tremendous boost to help children become solid and motivated readers and then use education to escape poverty. And hey, any program where I get to hang out at bookstores in Central Texas and then rustle through books in beautiful West Texas and give them out to happy kids is the best retirement plan ever!
