Gwynne Ash

Gwynee Ellen Ash, Ph.D., is a professor of Reading Education at Texas State University. Dr. Ash earned her B.A. and M.A. in English before teaching English Language Arts and Reading (ELAR) at a Title I middle school. She holds Texas certification in 4-8 and 6-12 ELAR, 4-8 Social Studies, and as a Reading Specialist (EC-12), with an ESL credential (EC-12). She earned her Ph.D. in Reading Education at the University of Georgia. For the past 25 years, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in reading instructional methods/reading assessment and children’s/young adult literature, as well as a capstone for Reading Specialists. In 2024 she was named the Jerry Johns Outstanding Teacher Educator in Reading by the International Literacy Association.
