BookSpring Dedicates Headquarters as “The Patterson Family Book Bank”

BookSpring is proud to announce the official dedication of our headquarters as The Patterson Family Book Bank—a name that now stands as a lasting tribute to a family deeply devoted to literacy, community, and compassion.

The dedication ceremony, held on March 26, 2025, celebrated the extraordinary generosity of the Living Water Foundation, with heartfelt recognition for Susan Patterson, whose leadership and vision brought this space to life, and her mother Kaye Patterson, whose lifelong commitment to service and education continues to inspire generations.

At BookSpring, we know that books change lives. Yet, in many communities across Texas, there are “book deserts”—places where access to age-appropriate, high-quality books is limited or even nonexistent. The idea of a book bank is modeled after food banks: just as food banks collect and distribute essential nutrition to families in need, book banks gather and share the critical nourishment of stories, imagination, and learning.

Now named in honor of the Patterson family, The Patterson Family Book Bank will serve as a vital hub where thousands of books are received, sorted, and prepared for delivery to families, educators, and children throughout the state. From this space, books will travel into homes where there may have been none before—helping to end book deserts, one child at a time.

“This organization has given me not only the chance to give back, but the joy of meeting the most amazing people—lifelong friendships rooted in a shared purpose.” – Susan Patterson

Because of this extraordinary gift, countless children will now have the opportunity to choose books of their own, caregivers will bond over shared stories, and educators will be supported in sparking a love for reading in their classrooms. From this single space, lives will be transformed, and futures will be written.

“I believe in the power of sharing what you love. For me, that’s always been stories and education. I’m so grateful that our family could help share that with others through BookSpring.” – Kaye Patterson

As we step into this new chapter, we thank Susan, Kaye, and the Living Water Foundation for their generous hearts and unwavering support. The Patterson Family Book Bank is more than a building—it is a legacy of service, learning, and love for community.

“Dedicating our first permanent home after 22 years in portable buildings is more than a milestone—it’s a promise of stability. A secure, climate-controlled space allows us to better care for our precious book donations and delivery operations. It also strengthens our ability to retain passionate staff, welcome more volunteers, and grow our impact for the long term.” – Emily Ball Cicchini, Executive Director

We invite you to join BookSpring in celebrating this incredible milestone in our delightful book bank home. Together, we can build a world where every child has the chance to grow up with books in their home and stories in their hearts.
