BookSpring Book Fund
Help put more books into more children’s hands—year after year.
BookSpring believes that one book can spark joy. But consistent access to books helps build readers.
Our strategic goal is to grow from providing an average of 2 new books per child each year to 4 books per child—giving children more opportunities to choose books they love, build home libraries, and experience reading as part of everyday family life.
El BookSpring Book Fund helps make that growth possible.

A Fund Dedicated to Books
100% of Book Fund contributions are restricted to the purchase of high-quality children’s books.
The fund gives BookSpring the ability to purchase board books, picture books, early readers, and chapter books on a rolling basis throughout the year.
We seek books that are:
- Age-appropriate and engaging
- High-quality and appealing to children
- Available in English, Spanish, and bilingual editions
- Reflective of a wide range of stories, interests, families, and experiences
- Selected to support reading from infancy through the elementary years
Having dedicated funds available for book purchasing allows BookSpring to respond to changing program needs, take advantage of favorable purchasing opportunities, and maintain a dependable supply of books for children and families.
A Meaningful Share of Our Annual Book Investment
Each year, BookSpring invests approximately $500,000 in new children’s books.
A fully funded $150,000 Book Fund, combined with the Andrew Delaney Foundation’s 1:1 match, provides $300,000 toward that annual investment—helping BookSpring purchase strategically, maintain a dependable supply of high-quality books, and increase the number of books children receive.
From 2 Books to 4
Our goal is simple: double the number of books each child receives.

For many of the children BookSpring serves, receiving a book is not simply adding another title to an already-full shelf. It may be one of relatively few books they can call their own.
Why Four Books?
Our goal is to move beyond a single moment of book access toward regular, consistent access to books throughout childhood.
Moving from approximately 2 books to 4 books per child each year creates more opportunities for children to:
- Choose books that genuinely interest them
- Build their own home libraries
- Read and reread favorite stories
- Share books with parents, siblings, and caregivers
- Make reading part of everyday family life
Over a period of 5 years, we can ensure that the children we serve have access to at least 20 books, which is a critical dose for educational success. While we have achieved this over some time periods with some partners and families already, the Book Fund provides the purchasing capacity needed to make this strategic shift sustainable.
An Investment in BookSpring’s Core Work
The BookSpring Book Fund offers longtime supporters and community leaders a direct way to strengthen one of the most fundamental parts of our mission: making sure children have books of their own to read at home.
Leadership gifts of $10,000, $25,000, $50,000 and above can make an especially significant difference, particularly while matching funds are available.
Multi-year commitments are strongly encouraged.
A multi-year pledge helps BookSpring plan with greater confidence, purchase strategically, and sustain increased book access over time.
It transforms an annual contribution into something even more valuable:
continuity for children and families.
Help Build a Stronger Future for Young Readers
The Book Fund is a simple investment with a tangible result:
More high-quality books.
More often.
In more children’s homes.
With committed partners, BookSpring can move closer to ensuring that children do not encounter books only occasionally, but have repeated opportunities to choose, keep, share, and love them.
