Getting To Know Me for 3-5 year olds

Getting to Know Me is the theme this week! Families can help young children think about who they are by asking these questions.

Who are you?

What do you like?

Where do you come from?

Who is in your family?

What makes you unique?

Watch the introduction video in English and Spanish and enjoy some read-aloud videos.

Read Together

You can download the books to read together.

Read these free, sharable books from our friends at Storyweaver about the Amazing, Marvelous You! You can download and save them and keep them forever, to read again and again:

Things to Do Together

Enjoy some of our recommended activities!

  1. Can you list all the things that you like about yourself? Some ideas might be your sense of humor, curiosity, soccer skills, or hair.
  2. Can you draw a picture of yourself? Look in the mirror and at the shape of your eyes, nose, lips, and even your ears! You can use crayons, pencils, or even paint if you have one.
  3. Great! How about drawing a picture of you and your family together?
  4. What are the things you like the most? Take turns and share your favorite:  Color, Animal, Food, Song, Day, Flower, Car, and Weather. Do you have other favorite things we didn’t list here?
  5. Name as many body parts as you can! If you name them, can your child point to each of them?
  6. Learn more from our partner Austin PBS with Count Me In| Sesame Street and Song: I Am Special | Sesame Street

Ways to Move Together

  • Simon Says – choose someone to be “Simon.” Simon tells everyone what moves to make by saying, “Simon says do this,” while performing an action (putting their hands on their head). Any activity preceded by “Simon says do that” must not be copied.
  • Sing “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and follow along with actions. You can find the music if you search on YouTube, and it is a wonderfully repetitive song, so easy to learn. Once you know the words, see how fast you can sing them!
  • Can you find ways to move using different parts of your body? Can you move on to your knees? One hand and one foot? Forwards? Backward?

Time to share…

Reflect on what you read and did at the end of the week. Did you learn something new about yourself?

“There is no one in this world exactly like you. Books can be a way to learn about yourself through the stories you enjoy the most!”

Come back each Sunday for new Weekly Themes from BookSpring.  Meanwhile, keep reading…
