We are excited to announce that our 2015 Storybook Heroes Luncheon…in the Hundred Acre Wood will feature guest speaker Lynda Johnson Robb. Join us for this special event Wednesday, May 6, at the Radisson Hotel & Suites Austin Downtown, 111 E. Cesar Chavez.
We are celebrating 40 years of reading in Austin, and BookSpring provides reading experiences, tools, and books to children and their families. Last year, BookSpring distributed more than 73,100 books to children and their families in low-income communities. Proceeds from the annual Storybook Heroes Luncheon benefit our programs in the greater Austin area.
Lynda Johnson Robb’s passionate interest in children’s literature led her more than 40 years ago to volunteer to read to children in hospitals. While there, she discovered that many children wanted and needed books so badly that hospital staff let them take home the books she had brought to read to them. This experience prompted her involvement in being a founding member of the Board of Reading is Fundamental, Washington, D.C., in 1968 and she served until 2013.
From 1996 until 2001, she was the Chairman of the RIF Board of Directors, and she has traveled nationwide to rally community and business support for RIF programs and to meet with volunteers who operate RIF programs. In 2013, Robb retired from the Reading is Fundamental Board to serve on the Library of Congress Board, which requires full commitment.
