We are thrilled to share the incredible news that BookSpring has been honored as a 2023 Literacy Awards Winner by the Library of Congress. This prestigious recognition is a testament to our commitment to advancing literacy and fostering a love for reading in children and families.
Recognition of Excellence
The Library of Congress Literacy Awards Program, established in 2013 with the generous support of philanthropist David M. Rubenstein, aims to celebrate organizations worldwide that have demonstrated exemplary, innovative, sustainable, and replicable strategies to enhance literacy. On September 8, 2023, International Literacy Day, the Library of Congress Literacy Awards Program selected BookSpring as one of its distinguished winners.
Token of Support
We are not only honored by this award, but we are also grateful for the $5,000 award that accompanies it. This financial support will allow us to further expand our literacy programs and reach even more children and families in need.
Acknowledging Our Commitment
This recognition is a celebration of our commitment to fostering early literacy through healthcare, education, and community engagement. It acknowledges the dedication of our staff, partners, and the communities we serve.
The Library of Congress Literacy Awards Program also recognized 15 other outstanding organizations for their successful practices in literacy promotion.
Receiving this recognition from the Library of Congress is a milestone in our journey to promote literacy. We are deeply honored and humbled to be among the esteemed winners. It motivates us more than ever to continue our mission of ensuring that families read and succeed together.
Grateful Note
Additionally, we would like to express our gratitude to Lynda Johnson Robb, a long-time benefactor of BookSpring and co-founder of Reading Is Fundamental, who recommended us for this award. Her support and belief in our work have been invaluable.
As Emily, our Executive Director, eloquently put it, “I’m so honored and humbled that we were encouraged to apply for and chosen to receive this award, which reflects not only where BookSpring is going, but also, our rich and committed past of providing books and motivational activities to children from birth through age 12. It really helps to know that others out there recognize and approve of our long hours of service and the seriousness with which we approach the work.”
The Library of Congress will host an in-person celebration in Washington, D.C. We look forward to sharing our experiences and insights.
Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey of literacy advocacy and celebration.
